Designed for on-camera and boom pole use in video production, the AT897 is a battery/phantom-powered short shotgun condenser that captures focused, clean dialogue and sound effects with an interference tube that is compact enough for handheld camera rigs and DSLR mounts. Its dual-power design eliminates dependency on camera-supplied phantom power, making it compatible with a wide range of video cameras and recording devices.

Dual Power: Battery and Phantom

The AT897 operates on a single AA battery or 11–52V phantom power, automatically selecting the available power source. This flexibility ensures reliable operation across video cameras with and without phantom power output, independent film setups, and broadcast ENG rigs where battery operation may be preferred for cable management reasons.

Short Interference Tube

The compact interference tube provides effective shotgun directivity in the midrange and high frequencies while keeping the overall microphone length suitable for on-camera mounting without creating excessive mechanical imbalance. The tight polar pattern reduces pickup of ambient noise from the sides, focusing the recording on the subject in front of the lens.

Low-Cut Filter and Sensitivity

A switchable 80 Hz low-cut filter reduces wind rumble, camera motor noise, and handling vibration transmitted through the camera body or boom pole. The AT897's sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio are optimized for dialogue pickup at typical video shooting distances of one to four meters.
