Fortin FT-333 Fredrik Thordendal Signature Gitarreneffekt

The Fortin 3.33 Fredrik Thordendal Signature Dual Boost is the evolution of the legendary 33 pedal, co-designed with the Meshuggah guitarist for players who want more than a single-channel clean boost. Two independently voiced channels — the red "3" and the green "33" — each carry their own Volume and active Bass and Treble controls, and Fortin's industry-standard Zuul noise gate is built directly into the circuit. Onboard amp-channel switching turns the pedal into a rig command center, while the ASSIGN switch chooses which footswitch changes the amp channel and the POLARITY switch reverses the switching logic to suit your amp.

  • Dual-channel boost/overdrive with active Bass and Treble per channel
  • Built-in Zuul noise gate for dead-silent stops between riffs
  • True-bypass DPDT relay switching with remote amp-channel control
  • 9V DC operation at 115 mA, built in the USA

Fortin Fredrik Thordendal Signature Dual Boost — Two Channels of High-Gain Command

The Fortin Fredrik Thordendal Signature Dual Boost — the 3.33 — is the next chapter in a collaboration between Mike Fortin and the Meshuggah guitarist that began with the original 33 pedal. Where the 33 was the "set-it-and-forget-it" gold standard, the 3.33 offers two independent channels and adds active Bass and Treble controls to each. The 3.33 is built for metal players running high-gain tube amps who want surgical control over their boosted tone without giving up the punch and clarity that made the original famous.

What Sets the 3.33 Apart in the Boost Category

Most boost pedals offer a single channel of gain and EQ. The 3.33 ships with two — a red "3" channel, a variation on another of Fredrik's favourite boost archetypes, and a green "33" channel, a beefed-up 33 with additional controls — each with its own Volume and active Bass and Treble. The integrated Zuul noise gate takes its signal from the pedal's input (Fortin's key system), so the gate is unaffected by the other controls on the pedal. Remote amp-channel switching via a quarter-inch output, combined with an assign switch and polarity switcher, lets the pedal act as the command center for a two-channel rig.

Signal Path and Switching Architecture

Signal flow and switching architecture determine how transparently a boost sits in a high-gain rig. The 3.33 uses an industry-standard DPDT relay true-bypass switch so the pedal powers up in the same state it was powered off, with no tone coloration when disengaged.

  • Bypass: DPDT relay true bypass — pedal remembers its last on/off state across power cycles
  • Footswitches: 2 (ON, CH 3/33) — ON activates the boost, CH 3/33 toggles between the red "3" and green "33" channels
  • Remote Switching: 1/4" (6.3 mm) AMP CHANNEL jack — the ASSIGN CH/ON switch selects whether the CH 3/33 or the ON footswitch changes the amp channel; POLARITY N.C./N.O. reverses it

Tone Shaping and Noise Management

Active EQ and noise gating are what separate a generic clean boost from a purpose-built metal tool. Each channel of the 3.33 carries its own active Bass and Treble control, letting the player compensate for different guitars, pickups, or amp voicings before the signal hits the power section.

  • Active EQ per Channel: Bass and Treble — independent control on each channel for amp-specific tuning
  • Volume: Output level per channel — the further clockwise, the higher the output
  • Noise Gate: Built-in Zuul — keyed from the input signal for dead silence between notes

Power Requirements, Connectivity and Construction

Power delivery and physical build determine how the pedal integrates into a touring or studio rig. The 3.33 runs on a regulated 9V DC external adapter only — there is no battery clip — and draws 115 mA, which sits well within the capacity of most isolated pedalboard power supplies.

  • Power: 9V DC center-pin negative, 115 mA — external regulated adapter required (not included)
  • I/O: 1/4" / 6.3 mm input and output — standard mono instrument connections plus amp-channel remote jack
  • Dimensions: 122 × 67 × 39.5 mm — compact pedalboard-friendly enclosure
  • Construction: Built in the USA — no battery clip inside, external power supply only
